Hello Parents,
I hope your child has adjusted to being back in school! We had a very busy week learning classroom procedures, safety precautions around the building and getting to know all the friends in class. Some fun activities were learning how to shop for new books, doing art projects and taking a benchmark test to show me how much they know coming into 2nd grade. We will compare this test to the same one they take at the end of the year to see how much growth they had! Sorry for the lengthy e-mail. I have quite a bit to go over. 🙂 A little housekeeping: I know Thursday's back to school night was quite different than what WPA normally does. If you haven't had a chance to see my recorded video and you have a spare 20 minutes, please watch and let me know if you have any questions. https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/IsVuwLJpNu One of the most important things I would like you to take away from the video is how much Friday online school impacts coming to class on Monday. I use Friday's to prep them for the next week since our time in the classroom is cut short. I had many confused faces today when I talked about the work they were supposed to do. I recorded a full video of the Friday expectations and posted it on the stream for them to watch first, but many did not watch it. On the stream I asked a question and asked them to comment below so I could make sure they followed directions and only a few answered it. For those that did everything I made sure to praise them today. 🙂 This morning in class I did a full walk through again of what was expected and reminded them how important it is to read all of the instructions, so I am hoping that this Friday goes a lot more smoothly. I told them they could earn extra credit points and earn ALL assignment points by following directions carefully. I know it's a learning curve for everyone and please know I am happy to help. Since I am part time; I am available by e-mail to help with Friday questions until 11:30 am. I will try my best to answer e-mails after that as well, but you may not hear back until Monday. Now for this week: A new reading log was sent home today. Please have your child do their best at answering the comprehension questions. This is worth 10 points. (2 points every night of reading and filling it out) REMINDER: These are sent home on Mondays and due the next Monday! You'll also see a list of their spelling words come home. They can use this paper to study for their spelling test on Thursday. They made a "cootie catcher" in class today that they can use to study for the vocab test too. 🙂 We started Unit 1 Week 1 in the reading curriculum. This week they are learning note taking while learning about the comprehension skills and strategies, vocabulary, and genre. They are learning that good readers know how to go back into the text to find answers. We will also practice logging into imagine learning and get access to raz-kids. Please do not have them do imagine learning or Raz at home until I say "all clear". They must take an assessment on it first. (That does not count for 100% online learners.) **** Next week starts DIBELS testing. Please make sure your child gets good rest and a good breakfast**** Thanks for all your support! As always, please reach out with any questions and please let me know if one parent doesn't want to be on the weekly e-mail list. Comments are closed.
