Hello!
Announcements: 1- This week is SPIRIT WEEK!!! Your child may participate each day if they pay $1 to help with the service learning fundraiser. 2- Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up. They will be on October 14th & 15th. Mrs. Brooks and I will both be available on MONDAY only. If your child has us both for math and/or literacy, please plan on signing up that day. 3- Take a look at your child's spelling and comprehension tests coming home today. We have been learning test taking skills and I have been very impressed with them. Their spelling scores are getting better too, :) 4- I only had 3 kids have to miss Fun Friday last week. Our goal is to have zero kids miss it! Please encourage them to get it turned in. 5- I am half way done with the Raz-Kids assessments. (Sorry, they take a long time!) If I have assessed your child, I have told them they can do their 20 minutes of reading on raz-kids. Literacy Objectives this week are: Genre: non-fiction Essential Question: “what do animals need?” It’s a full week! Our unit is all about pets this week. They will be reading realistic fiction stories still with a focus on asking and answering questions while they read.
New spelling words and a pink reading log were sent home today! If the bright green logs are not turned in this week, they will miss fun Friday. Parent- Teacher conferences are next month. I wanted to let you know ahead of time that Mrs. Brooks and I will be doing ours on Monday only. That way if your child has both of us for math and literacy you can meet with us the same day. Plan accordingly. :) Thank you for the book orders!!!! Hello!
It's another short week! Friday is professional development day for teachers. I wanted to clarify a couple things: 1) Reading logs are due on Mondays. This week I wrote in the dates on their logs to show that they are supposed to be reading 20 minutes EACH night. They can't fill out the log for future dates. The log for that week is only available to print for that week. Let's help instill the importance of doing homework and turning it on time for Fun Friday. The new log going home is a bright neon green. It is do the 16th. I only had 5 kids have to miss fun friday, but the goal is zero. 2) You will see their first spelling, vocabulary and reading comprehension test go home. Spelling tests are worth 23 points total. 20 for words and 3 for the spelling dictation sentences. They have to have a capital, the spelling word spelled correctly and a period in order to get full credit. All or nothing! This will help them work on complete sentences throughout the year. We took their first comprehension test together. I wanted to show them good test taking skills and teach them how good readers go back into the story to find the answers. If they didn't get 100%, then maybe they weren't listening. 3) Their first book order is going home. They send me a free book for my classroom library with every online order. It is due on Friday. Books take a week to deliver. This week the focus is realistic fiction stories and focusing on the setting, characters and events. The essential question is, "How are families around the world the same and different?" Have a fabulous week! Hello! I hope everyone had a nice long weekend! It was great to be back with the kids this morning. They were introduced to the Wonders Unit 1 Week 1. The essential question this week is "How do friends depend on each other?" The genre this week is fantasy. They will be working on how to visualize and find key details in stories. They were all sent home with a new spelling list for the week. Please use those words to study for the test on Friday. (No spelling homework is required. It's just there to practice.) The list they bring home are the types of spelling patterns that the assessment told me they need to work on. A new green reading log is also going home. As a friendly reminder, they are due on Mondays. That way they have 5 full days to work on it. If it gets lost, you can print another one under the "literacy" tab. Fun Friday is happening for the first time this week. If their reading logs and class assignments aren't done/turned in, then they will go to study hall instead to finish. A big thank you to those who have signed up to volunteer. I have a shopping cart full of fun ideas on teacherspayteachers.com. If you'd like to donate a gift card, it would be greatly appreciated. For every $10 you spend, you get 1 hour towards volunteer time. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Gift-Card Please let me know if you have any questions! Have a great week! We had so much fun the first week of school getting to know each other! They practiced routines, learned how to shop from the class library, and took a pre spelling assessment to help me figure out a spelling plan for the year. All I can say is WOW! These kids sure know how to spell. You will see their first set of spelling words come home next week. We will practice spelling routines this week and have a mock test on Friday.
New reading logs went home today! As always, you can print a new one if it gets lost. It is worth 10 points. (2 points per night) We don’t want anyone missing out on Fun Friday! This week they are taking a beginning of year benchmark test from our reading curriculum. We will compare this year to the end of year to see their growth. DIBELS also started today! Please remember to turn in the class disclosure and parent homework by this Friday! Thanks!! I loved meeting all of my new students today!! I hope they enjoyed their first day of literacy!
I sent home 3 important items today. They should have come home in their BEE book. 1) My classroom disclosure. Please read, sign and return. 2) Parent Homework. They thought it was hilarious I sent homework for you! 3) All about me bag. Please encourage your child to read this week. I will be sending home their first reading log tomorrow. It will be due next Monday! Don’t forget Back to School Night on Thursday from 5-7. Thanks! Please don’t hesitate to email me with any questions! Hello!
